Summary of Responsibilities

The CPA Firm Audit/Tax Manager role is responsible for managing client assignments and projects and delivering a high-quality service.  This includes advising, coaching, mentoring, and supporting team members in meeting client and self-development expectations.

The CPA Firm Audit/Tax Manager will have a strong understanding of business situations, project management, team management (including an ability to lead, direct and coach), and client relationship skills, as well as strong technical knowledge and a developing area of expertise.

The CPA Firm Audit/Tax Manager will meet all engagement objectives (including client expectations, deadlines, budgets and outcomes), provide outstanding client experience leading to high client satisfaction, produce excellent business development results through engagement growth of related and new services, and elicit high levels of satisfaction from team members. The CPA Firm Audit/Tax Manager will participate in firm wide initiatives including recruitment, business development, and retention initiatives. Essential Functions

  1. Develops and strengthens long-term relationships with senior client management and peer client levels.
  2. Develops and is accountable for the engagement work plan and ensures assigned tasks and responsibilities are achieved.
  3. Plans, organizes and controls multiple responsibilities and resources to achieve engagement objectives.
  4. Helps develop solutions for clients and manages the implementation of ideas.
  5. Advises, coaches, mentors and supports team members including providing consistent recognition and encouragement to team members to increase retention and utilization.
  6. Successfully builds, directs and maintains a motivated and empowered work team.
  7. Structures work teams to successfully meet client expectations and help develop strong client partnerships.
  8. Anticipates project issues, assesses alternatives and takes appropriate measure to resolve engagement
  9. Manages the engagement budget, quality control and profitability in their area of responsibility.
  10. Anticipates and communicates budget issues, identifies opportunities to improve engagement profitability and prepares billings and assists in collections.
  11. Identifies client needs/opportunities to develop additional value-added services.
  12. Supports the owner/s in the development and planning of practice objectives and budgets.
  13. Development of functional specialization and/or industry expertise.
  14. Supports the owner/s in developing new initiatives to increase retention, meet resourcing needs (including recruitment interviews), utilization and people development.
  15. Builds strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  16. Shares and transfers knowledge in the team.

  18. Reviews engagement workpapers, identifies any issues, and keeps the owner/s informed of all important developments in the engagement.

Education, Experience and Skills Required

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or master’s degree in accounting.
  2. Must hold a current and valid certified public accountant’s license.
  3. Experience in public accounting of 7 to 10 years in the relevant field of either tax or audit.
  4. Business acumen.
  5. Strong technical knowledge and skills.
  6. A developing area in field of expertise and industry profile.
  7. Strong client relationship skills.
  8. Strong project management skills.
  9. Strong team management skills – the ability to lead, motivate and coach teams of people.

A Senior Assurance Accountant performs most work assigned with a minimum of assistance. The qualified candidate leads one or more staff accountants, instructs them in work to be performed, reviews the staff accountant work, and directs necessary revisions. A Senior Assurance Accountant is also able to make decisions on all accounting and auditing matters with the exception of unusual accounting and auditing matters. When such problems arise, the Senior Assurance Accountant outlines them for the Manager, or Principal and then acts on advice.

A Senior Assurance Accountant is able to set up time budgets on jobs previously handled and can lead staff accountants to employ methods that will accomplish objectives in a timely fashion. Also, the qualified candidate displays professional conduct, showing confidence and ease in the presence of staff and client representatives.

Essential Functions

  1. Provides timely, high quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations.
  2. Keeps lines of communication open with staff and clients.
  3. Performs diversified accounting and auditing assignments under the direction of supervisor, manager, and principal.
  4. Demonstrates competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and firm standards.
  5. Monitors and reports regarding the productivity of staff and adheres to work plan schedules on each assignment.
  6. Meets time constraints and client deadlines.
  7. Participates in planning and scheduling client engagements.
  8. Directs, instructs, and mentors assistants, where applicable, in work to be performed and working paper review.
  9. Prepares and indexes work papers, performs various procedures established under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to verify accuracy and validity of client’s financial matters.
  10. Suggests client planning ideas and opportunities to increase level and types of services to a Supervisor, Manager, or Director.
  11. Prepares routine correspondence to client for approval and signature of a Director and writes comments for management letters.
  12. Drafts reports including footnotes.
  13. Performs the broadest range of accounting tasks so that direct participation of supervisors, managers or principals is kept to a minimum.
  14. Leads engagement team and prepares end-of-engagement evaluations for staff.
  15. Keeps abreast of latest developments as they affect GAAP, GAAS, and the Firm’s standards and policies.
  16. Prepares other reports, projects, and duties as may be assigned.
  17. Knows and understands the reason behind the firm’s policies and procedures.
  18. Possesses technical knowledge sufficient to supervise staff accountants.
  19. Begins acquiring the skills necessary to develop quality client relationships and loyalty.
  20. Performance is measured based on the quality of work, application of accounting knowledge, ability to meet time constraints, and results achieved.

Education, Experience and Skills Required

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or master’s degree in accounting.
  2. Experience in public accounting of 3 to 7 years preferred, demonstrating a progression in complexity, scope and number of engagements managed.
  3. Experience in auditing and not-for-profit accounting preferred.
  4. Either holds a current and valid certified public accountant’s license, or is a CPA candidate working toward obtaining the license by taking and passing the applicable state CPA exam.
  5. Proficiency in use of technology, and accounting and tax software applications.
  6. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English.
  7. Proven record of simultaneously managing multiple projects and engagement teams for various clients.
  8. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Prepare tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, not-for-profit organizations, estates and trusts.
  2. Complete financial statement engagements including compilation, review and audits.
  3. Uses the firm’s software applications to automate the process from trial balance, financial statement, and the tax return. This may include using technology to link client’s software applications with the firm’s software applications.
  4. Reconciles client records to trial balance, which may include analytical procedures, and performs schedule computations of prepaids, accruals, property, and equipment, and calculates depreciation and amortization expenses.
  5. Performs other accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting duties as needed in engagements and as assigned by supervisory personnel.
  6. May be required to perform all phases of an engagement, including field work, report writing and tax return preparation.
  7. Performance is measured based on the quality of work, application of accounting knowledge, ability to meet time constraints, and results achieved.

Education, Experience and Skills Required

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or master’s degree in accounting.
  2. Public accounting experience of 1 to 4 years preferred.
  3. Proficiency with technology, including accounting, tax, and spreadsheet applications, and 10-key calculator.
  4. Well-rounded knowledge of accounting principles and Federal and State tax laws.

Summary of Responsibilities

The Administrative Assistant/Receptionist performs clerical, tax processing, filing, and front office reception duties under the direct supervision of the Firm Administrator; works cooperatively with other members of the administrative and accounting teams with the aim of providing positive client experiences and satisfaction. Performs general office functions and related work as required.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

Front Office Reception

  1. Answer and place telephone calls quickly, efficiently, and courteously using multi-line telephone system as well as receive and transmit messages accurately and promptly using email, phone, fax, and photocopier
  2. Greets clients as soon as they arrive in the office in a professional and friendly manner
  3. Schedule appointments, conferences and meetings with clients for office personnel
  4. Update and maintain appointment calendar for office personnel
  5. Compose emails/memos/correspondence for transmittal to clients
  6. Handle, route and maintain organization of incoming and outgoing mail
  7. Maintain reception area, including conference rooms
  8. Handle incoming and outgoing Federal Express, UPS, and other special shipments

Clerical and Filing

  1. Maintain routing sheets/client information copies
  2. Type/bind financial statements, prepare for delivery to clients
  3. Type/Copy payroll and business taxes, prepare for delivery to clients
  4. Prepare engagement letters for signature
  5. Type letters/memos for accountants, prepare for delivery to clients
  6. Prepare year-end client mailings
  7. Input new client information/prepare file folders, maintain client information database
  8. Prepare and mail/email reminders to clients
  9. Maintain organized filing and scanning of correspondence, billing, business/individual files
  10. Maintain inventory of office supplies

Tax Processing

  1. Print and mail/email tax organizers
  2. Log in/log out completed tax information, prepare for delivery to staff/clients
  3. Pull weekly appointment files
  4. Copy/scan individual/business/fiduciary tax returns for delivery to clients

Job Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred or minimum 2 year Administrative/Receptionist/Office experience in a professional environment
  2. Knowledge of modern office methods and procedures, filing, telephone techniques and business English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; ability to read, write, speak and understand English proficiently
  3. Ability to operate office equipment, including office technology, various software applications, Microsoft Office 365, multi-line telephone system, copier, fax machine, postage meter/scale, word processor, and 10-key calculator; ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time and to lift 20 pounds
  4. Ability to perform administrative duties with speed and accuracy without immediate and constant supervision; ability to type 45 WPM
  5. Strong verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills.
